Officials

We NEED you!

Officials play a key role in providing fair athletic competition, however there is a shortage of officials in our region. Without officials, matches cannot go ahead. We’ve had a number of close calls in recent weeks, so we need to bolster our numbers!

Eastbourne Rovers will support your journey to becoming an official and reimburse costs.
Our most immediate needs are timekeepers, starters, field judges and track judges.

The qualifications can be taken online via England Athletics, if you have any questions, please ask a member of committee.

Officials are an integral part of athletics. For each meeting clubs are expected to provide officials.

Becoming an official

At all our home matches we need volunteers, parents and friends to help officiate to cover all the events and enable the match to run successfully. Perhaps you would like to formalise helping out and become a qualified official.

  1. Choose your discipline:
    Track Judge
    Field Judge
    Starter/Starter’s Assistant
    Timekeeper
    Race Walking offical
    Photofinish
    Assistant Official (14+)
    Endurance & Risk
    Event Adjudicator
  2. Attend a L1 course, including a Health & Safety module.
  3. Keep a log of 4 experiences. Our open meetings are the perfect opportunity to practice and gain experience! You can backdate experiences from before you attended the course.
  4. Submit your log
  5. Your licence will then arrive in the post!
