Final SAL match at Woking

Eastbourne Rovers Athletic Club Track and Field Team were up against some of the best teams this side of Birmingham in their last league match of the summer 2022 season. This features both Male and Female competitors of the club and brings together people from all areas to engage in league competition against some of the best teams in the country. This was a season where the club were in the top division.

The day started with Hayley Harris and Laura Seaman who were fairly new to track and field this season let alone trying their hand at Pole Vault during it and they both cleared the same height to get the club underway with points on the board. They went on to successfully compete in many events through the day for the team. It is always difficult to praise everyone but there was a great team spirit and support for each other. A special mention for Bryn Smith who has turned out for all the league matches and during his season of mostly victories with league bests for 100m 10.69 and 200m 21.71. In the women’s 100m Shania Martlew has recorded 12.59 and a 200m of 25.88 as she has turned out to score heavily. Another one to catch the eye was U20 Dylan Brudenell who was competing in the 100, 200 and made his debut in the 400 with an impressive 52.02.

In the 800 James Stephen was so close to his pb with 2.11.46as team manager Stuart Pelling competed in many events in his lead by example approach. U17 Eleanor Strevens better known for 800/1500 ran a superb 400m debut in 61.53 who was ably supported by Heather Jenner. Ellie Mclean making her own league debut then enjoyed teaming up with Eleanor in both the high jump and 2000m steeple chase. Sophie Hutchison who has been ever present put in some solid performances. Benjamin Brown had a solid run in the 1500for a great third place in a race that was won in 4.02.46. Oisin O’Brien and Stuart Pelling ran a tough and fast 5000m won in 15:31.72. Grant Stirling and Brian Slaughter kept the team average age up as they competed mainly in field events with their best performance being the pole vault.

The women concluded with two second places in the 4×100, 4×400 relays to better the men.
