Angela Morgan 1959-2022

The club is sad to announce the passing of Angela Morgan.
Eastbourne Rovers members who have shown an interest in throws or attended any of our matches will know Angela Morgan as a fellow athlete, coach or official.
Sadly, Angela passed away on Tuesday 8th November after her long battle with cancer (aged 63).

Angela joined Eastbourne Rovers as an 11 year old, and was ladies captain at 15. She competed in all events including high jump, long jump and even hurdles to help get points for the team, finally settling on the shot put and hammer with most success. Angela came 2nd in the first Sussex Hammer competition when it was introduced to ladies in 1996. Her name was then frequently in the top 3 as a master.
1997 was a great year for Angela as one weekend she won the hammer in the Southern league match on the Saturday with a PB of 33m92 and then on the Sunday competed in the Southern Veterans championships coming second with another PB of 34m52.
Angela also enjoyed travelling around the country and picking up medals at the British Masters Championships and was ranked 5th in the country at hammer at V45 and 4th as a V50.

Angela was a stalwart of the Rovers carrying out many positions on the committee, organising matches, coaching and officiating. She also enjoyed officiating at the Sussex Championships and league matches. Many times, she would be both competing and officiating! She coached many Eastbourne athletes of all ages to claim medals at the county championships.
Angela was always working behind the scenes advising the committee, making sure the track and field were safe to use and setting up for all our home matches.

She competed for the club until 2019 and enjoyed the camaraderie of European and World Masters competitions with the most recent 8th place in the world championships held in Perth Australia 2016.
Angela was one of the leading forces in getting Eastbourne Rovers a new throwing cage which will be in place this year. The club can then continue the great work of the expert throws coach they have sadly lost.
