The Indoor athletic season is now underway with Eastbourne Rovers athletes having to travel some distance to experience running on an indoor track. A small contingent went to Lee Valley for the sprint events, where the races are graded according to predicted times. For Nathan Burge it was his first race as an U15 and he did not disappoint as he ran a fantastic 7.88 secs to gain second place in his race against older boys and finished off 2nd fastest U15 of the day.
Toby Shepherd has also moved up an age group to U17 and had a busy afternoon tackling two 60m races and a 300m. His second short sprint gave him a personal best of 7.75 and he surged over the line in first place. The 300m needs skill to run on the high banked bends and Toby took this in his stride again making a final lunge for the line to take second in a brilliant time of 39.54.
Caitlyn Spencer(U17) lined up for the 60m and made it look very easy for a clear win. She clocked 8.45 in her first race and improved this to 8.43 in the second for new personal best.
Newcomer Zoe Wright(U17) also improved through the rounds to finish with a very good time of 8.65 to take third place.
For all this was a great start to the indoor season.
Bryn Smith has been invited to compete inthe 200m at the British indoor champs in February. Bryn has hit the sub 21.5 second qualifying standard, well done Bryn!
