London Marathon Club Ballot

The London Marathon Club Ballot took place on Tuesday 13th December at Eastbourne Sports Park. Due to ice the centre was closed for training, so Chairperson Mike Thompson met with Committee member Richard Davis in reception. Phil Wood was on hand to witness proceedings and the lucky ticket itself was pulled from the hat by a member of staff at the sports centre!
Eastbourne Rovers are delighted to announce Ben Skinner was drawn, and he has accepted the London Marathon place with equal delight.
Ben is an ultra runner more familiar with the South Downs Way, but keeps his speed up by training with World of Pete Endurance group, and taking part in the cross country races. Ben is pictured at Black Cap XC with Coach Pete.
Ben is a chef and is popular amongst Rovers for bringing goodies such as miso brownies to races! He is looking forward to the challenge and will be setting a goal shortly.

Each year, Eastbourne Rovers are usually awarded at least one London Marathon place to allocate to its members as it sees fit. The number of places the club is given, if any, depends on how many first claim adult members affiliated to England Athletics are with the club. For a number of years, the place or places have been allocated via an internal club ballot. As with anything as important as this there are rules in place for the ballot, but we want members input for next time. Look out for the survey coming in the next newsletter.
