The East Sussex Sunday Cross Country League came to a close at Pett yesterday (12th March).
Rovers went into the final round in third position, and needed a solid performance to hang on to the team bronze.
Pett is known for it’s mud, and it didn’t disappoint! The undulating course provided a good final challenge for the athletes even if the course was extremely short at around 7km.
Juniors
As ever, the juniors set off first, and there was plenty of prizes for the Eastbourne Rovers contingent to battle for!
In the under 11 boys, Fox Andrews and Charlie Davey finished 6th and 7th, Grace Luford-Brown took 4th and Georgia Lennard 14th for the girls.
In the under 13 girls, Evie Lennard took another comfortable win.
Dermot O’Rourke took 2nd in the under 17 boys.
Final Standings
Fox Andrews and Charlie Davey finished the series in a solid 4th and 5th out of 24 competitors in the U11 boys.
In the U11 girls, Grace Luford-Brown finished the series in 3rd place a fantastic achievement, and Georgia Lennard a respectable 11th from having only done 3 races.
In the Under 13 boys, Jonah Messer won the competition, dropping only 1 point, meaning he didn’t need to attend the last race. Fin Lumber-Fry was 4th from only 2 races – both of which he scored maximum points. Joshua Webster finished 5th, and Byron Roberts in 8th.
In the Under 13 girls, Evie Lennard was in a class of her own, comfortably winning the series with the maximum points, winning every race!
Dermot O’Rourke took a brilliant 2nd in the series for U17s, performing consistently throughout.
Seniors
On to the seniors, there were 23 Rovers in attendance doing their bit to cling on to bronze.
Top 3 performances were found by Alison Moore was 2nd senior female, Stuart Pelling 2nd M35, Sue Fry 1st F50, and Mike Thompson 3rd M65.
Final Standings
It has to be said the spirit of this seasons XC squad has been unrivalled in recent years. The enthusiasm to be part of the team hasn’t gone un-noticed, and we’ve pulled together through all weathers and even hosted a fixture along the way.
For the men, Mike Thompson came away with 3rd place in the M65 category.
Alison Moore was second lady overall, having only dropped 3 points in a really hard fought season.
Sue Fry was F50 champion, followed by Natalie Dawson, 2nd F50.
The team valiantly held on to 3rd place overall, with our best result the win at New Place Park back in December.
I hope you all agree it’s been a fun season and a great way to get to know your club mates. Roll on next season!
