London Indoor Games

Eastbourne Rovers young athletes were in action competing at the U15/U17 London Indoor Games.

Saturday saw the U17’s Adam Churchyard and Honest Chinengundu tackle the 60m sprints. Honest sprinted into 2nd place in his first race in 7.69 secs. He then managed to find more strength at the finish in the next race, to cross the line in 1st place and a faster time of 7.59.

Adam was pleased with his first experience of indoor competition improving his personal best time to 8.1 sec.

It was then the turn of the U15’s. Stanley Atkins had to master the outside lane with a steep camber in his 300m, but after the break found he was clear in 2nd position smashing his personal best by over a second to record 42.0.

Nathan Burge found himself in race 2 of his 60m and after a brilliant start he maintained his first place in 7.59secs. In the second round he was up against the strongest sprinters in London so had to settle for 5th spot showing great consistency with 7.6.

Nathan then drew the inside lane for his 200m and was chasing the stagger all the way finishing in another 5th spot , just off his best time with 24.6 secs.

Athletes now look forward to the Sussex Indoor Championships in Carlshalton at the beginning of March.
