Eastbourne Rovers take on the London Mini Marathon

Byron Roberts – 5th overall – Under 13 boys race

Fin Lumber-Fry, Freda Pearce, Daisy Connor and Byron Roberts competed at the London Mini Marathon Championships for the South East Team in their respective age groups. The race gives the UK’s most promising young athletes the chance to compete against the best new talent in British road running.

Selection is based on performance over the winter cross country season, with only the 6 fastest runners per age group being selected per region.

There were 9 regional teams, Wales, Northern Ireland and 33 teams from the London Boroughs. The regional and national teams stayed at the same hotel in London the night before the race and got to meet Great Britain runner Megan Keith.

Fin Lumber – Fry (U15 boys race) and Byron Roberts (U13 boys race) were both allocated a place in the seeded pen and started at the front of their races as the fastest runners. 

Each 2.6km race had approximately 221 runners who raced from Horse Guards Parade, around St James Park towards Buckingham Palace and down The Mall to the finish.

Byron Roberts (U13 Boy)showed strength, speed and determination and finished an impressive 5th place overall in a time of 8m32s.

The U13 Boys SE Team achieved 2nd place team overall.

Fin Lumber-Fry (U15 Boy) 1st year in the age group, finished a fantastic 39th overall (6th for his age)

Freda Pearce (U15 Girl) managed the hectic start line well & ran a strong race to finish 28th overall, and 3rd in the SE U15 team.

Daisy Connor & Freda Pearce – Under 15 girls race

Daisy Connor (U15 Girl) got through the race with a very respectable 53rd place after time off training, for recovery.

A wonderful achievement for these rising stars in the athletic world!
