Bryan Brett set ambitious goals for the 2023-24 running season, aiming for an England vest over 10k and a podium finish at the British Masters Championships in the 1500m track event.
His preparation included participation in the Sussex Grand Prix representing Eastbourne Rovers A/C. Bryan dominated the series, securing victory with an impressive 2999 points, dropping only 1 point throughout the competition.
In addition to the Grand Prix, Bryan competed in two 1500m track races leading up to the British Championships, clinching a bronze medal in only his third track race of the season. He then showcased his endurance and speed at the England Team 10k trials, securing third place in the V35 category with a season-best time of 32:41, earning him a coveted spot to represent England versus Wales at the AJ Birmingham Great 10k on Saturday 5th May.
Despite facing stiff competition in the AJ Birmingham Great 10k, with 12,000 participants, Bryan delivered an impressive performance, securing 13th place for England, which ultimately helped to team victory. Although it wasn’t a personal best due to the challenging course conditions, Bryan drew many positives from the race, including his confidence in breaking the 32-minute barrier for the 10k distance in the near future.
